The "Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was established as part of the Department of Homeland Security" by the Aviation and Transportation Security Act which was adopted by the 107th Congress on 19 November 2001, after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 with the purpose of protecting national transportation system.
This select group with others, ensures the safety of roads, trains, buses, mass transit systems, ports and 450 airports in the nation. Today has about 50,000 employees from Alaska to Puerto Rico to ensure that travelers who use these media to reach their destinations safe and well protected.
Its main responsibilities were: security of all modes of transportation in the nation, recruit, assess, hire and train "security officer" to protect 450 commercial airports from Guam to Alaska (including Puerto Rico). They had 12 months to accomplish, and provide a rigorous inspection of all baggage for explosives is free for 31 December 2002.

This project is considered the largest in the United States government that had the mission to complete its
assignment within a short predetermined time period. In March 2003 moved the "Department of Transportation"
to the new Department of Homeland Security that was created by the Homeland Security Act of 2002 consolidating
the responsibility to protect the nation against threats.

As part of the agency's commitment to the American people are working on creating a network of emergency
communications in the Amateur Radio Service and already a good number of States (including Puerto Rico) has
rained his officers and many of they are already licensed by the FCC amateur radio, ready to operate radio
stations in emergencies. As part of this work plan the ARRL / VEC Volunteer Examiners and Puerto Rico held
a special meeting to review a group of young officers at the facilities of Luis Muñoz Marín Airport. The photos
below record the activities of the session. Congratulations to TSA officials for its commitment to pass
examinations required by the FCC to grant a license to operate within the Amateur Radio Service.
